Ingredients

  • 1 small white onion, cut into 1.25cm thick rounds and separated into rings
  • 60g panko breadcrumbs (about 1 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 240ml buttermilk (about 1 cup)
  • 65g plain flour (about ½ cup)
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare Onion Rings:
Slice the onion into 1.25cm thick rounds and separate into individual rings.
  2. Make Breading Mixture:
In a bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, smoked paprika, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Make Egg Mixture:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
  4. Preheat Air Fryer:
Set your air fryer to 188°C and allow it to preheat.
  5. Coat Onion Rings:
Dredge each onion ring in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Spray and Cook:
Spray the coated onion rings generously with non-stick cooking spray. Place them in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket. Cook in batches at 188°C for 10 minutes or until golden brown, spraying between batches for even cooking.
  7. Serve:
Serve hot with your favourite dipping sauce.

Notes:

  • For extra crunch, double coat the onion rings by repeating the dipping process.
  • Try serving with spicy mayonnaise, ranch, or garlic aioli for added flavour.
